"COBWEBS" is finished! After a year and a half, drafting 442 pages, selecting of 45 pictures out of thousands and editing and proofing 100,000 words, Margie and I have finished writing our memoirs up to the end of the 20th century. This would not have been possible without the initiative of our children who paid for the professional help we needed to get this done as a Golden Wedding gift to us.
We owe special thanks to our eldest daughter Natalie, who project managed us kindly but firmly to get the book done with weekly meetings over more than 80 weeks. It has been a fun and sometimes painful process.
At the end of his life, Socrates is supposed to have said, according to Plato and others: “The unexamined life is not worth living”. Socrates famously chose suicide by hemlock over a silent exile.
Margie and I have been less drastic. Writing memoirs has been for me an interesting but often painful experience. When I review the risks we took and the mistakes I’ve made, I often feel a twinge of regret or a shade of embarrassment. But the work is done! The comments I have received so far on the first edition are that there is too much material in there and not everything in there is interesting to everybody. But we believe that our children and close friends will find much to enjoy in the book!
To access the book, click on MENU on this website - guillermotaylor.com - and then click on BOOK. Or simply click BOOK here to read the book! The first edition of “COBWEBS” is a searchable PDF wherein using keywords you can easily find subjects of interest therein. Only six hardcover copies are in existence. We may eventually print a soft cover second edition for wider distribution.
This compendium of stories is our thesis of how we view our life in the past millennium, and we will address some of the various subjects in the book through this blog. We all belong to various tribes in our lifetime. Some of our tribes have been the Taylor/Slater/Robson/Degaudenzi extended families, "Floreat Andreana" - the St. Andrews' Scots School class of 1961; Old Northlanders; “El grupo LMTT” - ingenieros quimicos de la facultad de ingenieria de la UBA; ex alumnos del Martin y Omar, Rugby friends and fans; Boca Juniors and Seleccion Argentina fans; Coca-Cola people worldwide; Argentine and other international expats; “La familia gregoriana” – personas beneficiadas por el beato Jose Gregorio Hernandez; The worldwide networks of Eliyahu Goldratt's Theory of Constraints practitioners, students and consultants, as well as smaller tribes of various other people with whom we have something in common. Some of the blogs we plan to write here will address the particular interest of some of these tribes and may lead to further book efforts.
We will also post, answer and discuss some questions or observations from friends and family in this blog. My operating e-mail for contact is billtoc@yahoo.com
Margie and I are grateful for the opportunity to have the health and memory to enjoy and continue to add to our EXAMINED LIFE.
